The new owners of this historic and much beloved cottage in Brunswick Heads wanted a garden that packed pockets of beauty into every cranny outdoor space.

The official brief was

“contained ramshackle”

and we’re are counting the days until the garden's first spring, when bulbs and perennials start to deliver the ramshackle element of the brief.

Curvy garden beds soften the straight lines of the old house, while unfussy building materials keep the design grounded and approachable. â€‹â€‹â€‹

...

The planting experiments with varieties of grasses and flowering perennials usually found in colder climates, featuring a select few that we've tested against the inevitable rains and humidity of the Northern Rivers. The extra soil prep and care will be well worth the pops of seasonal joy in the sunny front garden.
